Taylor Heinicke Went From XFL Backup To Signing A 2 Year, $8.75 Million Contract In The Span Of 1 Game

All you can do is be thrilled right now for Taylor Heinicke. Guy was out of the league and couldn't even get a start in the XFL. But he stayed the course. He signed on to the practice squad in Washington, and then by the fate universe, started a playoff game against Tom Brady. "Yeah, but what happened in between?" you might ask. Nothing. It went XFL backup, to practice squad, to starting a playoff game vs Tom Brady where he put on one of the greatest, most memorable shows we've seen out of a QB since RG3.

What does this mean for the starting job in DC? Not a ton changes, I don't think. After missing out on Stafford, the WFT still wants a proven QB under center next year. But with Alex Smith's future unclear, and the other option Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke is a good guy to have on the depth chart, albeit it's based off of 1 game.

Whatever happens, can't help but be happy for Heinicke for turning lemons into lemonade and getting paid. He's basically freerolling the rest of his career, but let's hope it goes the way of Kurt Warner and he's the real deal and we just found ourselves the QB of the future. Who freaking knows, crazier things have happened.
